TAJ Fine Jewelry's owner, John Narang, is Diamond Certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and we only deal in NATURAL DIAMONDS. This has given him the knowledge and confidence to deal in the diamond trade regardless of diamond certification organization (GIA, AGS, IGI, EGL, or non-certified diamonds). TAJ Fine Jewelry joined RAPNET as a full member in 2011. WE ONLY DEAL IN NATURAL DIAMONDS. Investing your capital in synthetic/manmade diamonds in very unwise and please look toward other businesses if that is what you desire.

TAJ has instant access to the RapNet repository and able to provide quick estimates of what your diamond request will cost, as well connecting us with dealers with suitable diamonds to target. TAJ can search on a budget number (i.e. client wants to spend $12,000 on the center diamond), and we also have a growing fancy colored diamond business. We use our diamond buying methodology for clients as if we were purchasing the diamond for our own stock. Our proven, transparent method of showing clients the RAPnet diamond listings/prices and just adding a TAJ margin percentage has significantly grown our bridal business category the past decade.
TAJ was previously a member of the New York Diamond Dealers Club (NYDDC) from 2007 to 2010. NYDDC is located in Manhattan on 47 th Street in the New York City Diamond District. TAJ was also a member of the International Diamond Exchange (IDEX) community for 2008 and 2009. We maintain professional relationships with many of the current members/dealers from both diamond purchasing organizations. The move to RAPNET was a logical choice due to the lessening importance of the other clubs; however, we remain in good standing with both previous diamond bourses. The original trading partners at the NYDDC and IDEX helped grow our respective businesses and we leverage those long, trusted relationships monthly. In 2020, TAJ Fine Jewelry joined Virtual Diamond Boutique, Polygon, and Get-Diamonds. These enable more options to source for client needs, as well as making vendors compete to provide better pricing for private client custom work.
All diamonds prices in the trade are based off of Martin Rapaport's price guide which is released every two weeks. It marks the high NYC asking price of any classification type of diamond. The Rapaport Diamond Report is the primary first-hand source of diamond pricing information and sets inter-dealer prices in the diamond market. Diamonds purchased through RAPNET and other dealers are purchased below this price listing and standard price negotiation is performed on the electronic diamond trading platform, in-person, and via telephone/video conferencing. This ensures the best purchase price for any diamond TAJ is searching for. |

Each diamond is unique, but certain characteristics allow the trade to price and compare: |
Carat Weight : One carat equals 1/5 of a gram in weight. For diamonds under a carat, each carat is divided into 100 points. "Magic" carat sizes used in the trade (basically each quarter carat you add) change the Rapaport price. |
Clarity : The GIA Clarity Scale includes eleven clarity grades ranging from Flawless to Included. Given that diamonds form under tremendous heat and pressure, internal and external characteristics are common. These characteristics help gemologists separate natural diamonds from synthetics and simulants, and identify individual stones. TAJ can help you understand the inclusions in a stone and how a VVS grade differs from a VS grade. |
Color : The GIA Color Scale extends from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Although many people think of gem quality diamonds as colorless, most diamonds used in jewelry are nearly colorless with tints of yellow or brown. This tinting comes from the presence of nitrogen as an impurity within the carbon composition of the diamond. Each letter grade represents a range of color and how noticeable it is. The colorless range (D, E, F) are the gemstones of the highest quality due to no noticeable yellow coloring. |
Cut : The GIA Cut Scale ranges from Excellent to Poor. GIA provides a cut quality grade for standard round brilliant diamonds that fall in the GIA D-to-Z color range. The beauty of a diamond lies within the proportions and angles of the cut stone and its interaction with light. Brightness, fire, scintillation are affected by how excellent of a cut a diamond has. The design (weight ratio, durability) and craftsmanship (polish, symmetry) of a diamond also affect its cut quality, and are considered in determining a diamond's GIA Cut Grade. |
Our diamond philosophy is to prioritize Excellent Cut grade, then maximize color and clarity based upon client budget. Excellent cut stones maximize light return due to having superior geometry and proportions. We believe Color grade is a tad more important than Clarity grade and adjust our focus to maximizing both based upon client investment capital. |
